World’s Largest Attendance

Posted by:
Music festivals, of course, attract a large number of people but this is generally a manageable amount of punters. Many concerts actually turn out to be below expectation. In history there are two events that have registered the world’s highest concert attendances.
The first on the list is a Rod Stewart concert from 1994, which took place in Brazil, South America. The New Year’s Eve event attracted a total of over 3.5 million heads. We should really give credit to the organisers because one wonders where on earth they found a place to accommodate such a figure. This festival was organised in a beach called Copacabana in Rio, meaning they didn’t need to worry about space. Nearing two decades later, the infamous British rock star still has his name in the Guinness Book of records.
The second event attracted roughly the same number of people and took place in Moscow in 1997. This was also by a European musician, Jean Michel Jarre from France, who played a concert for the anniversary of the city. Many people of Moscow attended because, as the time, he was a huge draw in the city and millions of fans followed his career. Jean Michel was already hugely famous and this was his first ever visit to Russia, so everyone who cared to see him attended the concert. He admits that he never expected that kind of crowd. Another big attenedance for his concert was in Paris when he was performing on the Paris La Defense tour in 1994. A record of 2.5 million people turned.
Will these records ever be broken? Only time will tells. Most famous music festivals and concerts believed, that we think attract a large number, record figures well below a million people.
