Dave Matthews, Carter Beauford, Boyd Tinsley, Stefan Lessard and the late LeRoi Moore: these five, extremely talented musicians came together to produce amazing music! Their style is a mixture between world music, rock and pop.
From their very first gig, at a private party, their popularity skyrocketed. Every album has been a success and every album released is worth owning.
Dave Matthews.
The front man of the band was born in 1967 in Johanesburg, South Africa. Dave Matthews and his family relocated many times before settling down in Charlottesville, Virginia. Matthews took piano lessons in Charlottesville and when he was nine he picked up his first guitar. As he grew older, he knew that he wanted to surround himself with the best possible musician, and he managed to do just that.
Carter Beauford.
He knew that he wanted to be a drummer at three years old; when his father took him to see the legendary Buddy Rich. His first professional gig was when he was nine years old, as a part of a jazz-fusion outfit. He landed up joining a group called “Secrets” where he played with saxophonist LeRoi Moore. Dave Matthews approached them both to help him work on some of his material.
Boyd Tinsley.
Surrounded by music as a child, Tinsley wanted to learn how to play the guitar. After signing up for a middle school strings class (thinking the guitar would feature), he was intrigued enough to pick up a violin. After realising that studying classically was not the path he wanted to follow, he chose to study musicians in the jazz, rock and blues sector. When the opportunity to join the Dave Matthews band came his way, he dropped everything he was doing; he knew this band would make it big.
Stefan Lessard.
This great musician takes his music seriously, and so he should: he has so much talent! He joined the band when he was only 16 years old. With music in the family, he was bound to play, well, just about every instrument he could get his hands onto. He has managed to make his parents proud; their lives as musicians couldn’t support them, but it supported their son to the top.
LeRoi Moore.
In junior high school he started to play the saxophone. He was an accomplished jazz musician before he even met Dave Matthews; this happened at one of his gigs as part of the John D’earth Quintet. LeRoi passed away in August 2008 due to complications sustained in an ATV accident 2 months earlier. He was a brother to his band members and a legend to the rest of the world.
